Our blog, Signature Design Style was conceived by Pam Hibbard and Kate Gleim, who have worked together for the past 30 years. With over 70 years in the floral industry and retail between them, they have an abundance of experience and knowledge to share.
Filled with information, inspiration and beauty, their mission is to provide ideas that will spark your imagination and inspire you to experience the joy and contemplation offered through creativity. They feel the greatest teacher is Mother Nature herself and you will find her reflected throughout their creations and education.
Flowers, whether fresh or faux, almost never fail to bring joyful feelings. Creating beauty with flowers can be fun, rewarding and even meditative, when the worry of ‘not doing it right’ is left out of the design equation. When you are creating designs for your home, you have only to please yourself. With our projects and design education, we hope to share with you basic design techniques and tips that will bring more enjoyment to your design practices, as well as advanced applications for those with more experience.
The word ‘design’ covers many areas and applications and our goal is to present as many as possible. Mother Nature is one of our greatest sources of inspiration so her influence is prevalent in our works.
Pre-made floral designs have become widely available in the last decade. Using them as a base for your own creations, makes designing with faux flowers much easier because the basic form and mechanics is complete before you start your design. Adding your choice of flowers and accessories allows you to create a design showcasing your personal style.

House of Design has offered classes since its inception, covering a broad range of topics related to flower arranging, interior design and garden flowers. They are taught by Kate Gleim AIFD, a well-known educator in the floral industry. She has taught in over five countries and almost all the states, traveling for 20 plus years for FTD and other floral industry companies, while operating her flower shop in Redding. Now, very content to stay at home in Red Bluff, she shares her inspiration, knowledge and love of flowers at her store and on the web.
Every year there is a new schedule of classes, which are presented every few weeks from February through June and two favorites in the fall. The classes are fun, casual, informative, and filled with inspiration. You don’t need a background in design – Kate shares ideas that can be easily used by novices, as well as information for seasoned designers. Using pre-made designs and individual materials she demonstrates how you can integrate things you have at home to create designs and vignettes to decorate in your own style. Tea and cookies are served and everyone has a great time learning, sharing and laughing. Afterwards attendees receive individual help with their ideas and projects. We hope you will join us soon and be inspired by design!
