Dried Flowers

October 7, 2013

Growing up in Colorado, there was always a void during the winter.  Yes the majestic snow crowned mountains and the stoic blue spruce laden with glittering ice crystal are breath taking, but there are no flowers.  So when we moved to California, it wasn't the availability of year round fresh flowers that caught my attention, but rather the abundance of flowers that could be dried and used to decorate during those dreary months of winter.

We will be compiling a list of flowers along with the best harvesting and drying techniques for each.  The timing of the harvest, lots of circulating air and patience is key in most successful drying projects.  We will start with tansy, pearly everlasting, adding more as summer moves into fall.
